“I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most important, music, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning.” (Plato, Greek Philosopher)
The arts classes at Bassett High School are designed to develop young competent artist, musicians, and actors while requiring students to be responsible, independent learners, and work cooperatively in groups. Our course offerings meet California state standards and are approved to meet A-G requirements for the University of California. These classes help prepare Bassett students to further their arts education and a career in the arts should they wish to do so. Interested students can be involved in classes, competitions, and activities outside the school day. Field trips are common in the arts department taking students to art museums, performance competitions, and concerts.
A 1989 U.S. Department of Labor study reported that, “…arts education helps students make important advances in the core competencies needed for employment. These competencies include creative thinking, problem solving, exercise of individual responsibility, sociability, and self-esteem.”
