The Bassett High School English Department aims to develop our students’ reading and writing skills.  English courses provide opportunities to explore a wide variety of literary genre (novel, drama, short story, poetry, biography, autobiography, and essay) and various methods of writing (narration, persuasion, description, exposition, and imaginative).  Through the study of literature and writing, students will be able to interpret, judge, appreciate, and analyze ideas that will enhance personal fulfillment and contribute to growth toward becoming an effective communicator.  Our courses also provide an essential standards-based environment and a foundation for students to become life-long learners through the inspiring stories of great literature.
